When I was deciding between specialties previously, I found Urology to be an exciting field in medicine where the newest technology was being used to treat medical problems. Until today, new advancements in medical technology has continued to find its way into clinical urology practice.
Patients should consider consulting a urologist if they have problems with their urination (eg, bleeding, slow urinary flow, urinary frequency and urgency, incontinence), and also if they face difficulty in their sexual life (erectile dysfunction, ejaculatory dysfunction, subfertility).
I continue to attend local and international medical conferences and workshops to keep abreast of the latest developments.
I believe patient care should be kept affordable and effective. Patients should also be involved in the decision making process and take responsibility for their health.
There are many patient success stories but it will not be appropriate to discuss these due to privacy concerns. These stories have convinced me to take every symptom the patient presents with seriously and to evaluate them appropriately.
Many patients with erectile dysfunction for example may just brush their symptoms aside, but this might be a harbinger of a more sinister underlying vascular or hormonal problem. A full and comprehensive check-up can unravel the underlying condition and hence I advise patients to always be truthful about their symptoms.
Good communication with patients and their family members are crucial to them understanding their treatment choices.
I enjoy my work a lot and I feel by doing so, I will always feel refreshed to engage my patients.
The most exciting development emerging is in the field of artificial intelligence merging with robotic systems. This will allow urologists to harness the efficiency and accuracy of AI prediction tools with the precision and accuracy of robotic systems to deliver the best care for patients.
Patients can maintain a health lifestyle by exercising and eating a well-balanced diet. If they detect any abnormalities in their urinary system, they should seek advice early instead of brushing aside these symptoms.
“My approach to urology combines precision, innovation, and compassion. Every patient deserves personalised care that not only treats their condition but also enhances their quality of life. Helping my patients regain confidence and well-being is the most rewarding part of my practice.”
