Who Is Dr Owen Hee?

Dr Owen Hee is a Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist at Hesed Eye Specialists. He specialises in cataract surgery, glaucoma and general ophthalmology providing a comprehensive range of treatments for: myopia control, diabetic eye disease, age-related macular degeneration, retinal and other eye related conditions. He has been practising Ophthalmology for over 18 years.

Dr Owen received both his undergraduate and postgraduate training in London. In 2011, he was awarded a scholarship from the Singapore Government to undergo further postgraduate specialist training in London. 

He sub-specializes in Glaucoma and is one of the few surgeons accredited to perform various Microinvasive Glaucoma Surgeries (MIGS). Additionally, he performs the full suite of cataract surgeries including Bladeless Femtolaser-assisted Cataract Surgery. He also adopts a customised approach to each patient for cataract surgery that has been honed from years of experience and thousands of cataract surgery performed thereby achieving great outcomes for each patient based on their individualised vision requirements that has taken into account their different lifestyle and work requirements. One of the defining features of his cataract surgery approach is meticulous preoperative planning and counselling where a full range of intraocular lens implant solutions are discussed ranging from Monofocal, Monofocal Toric, Extended depth of focus (EDOF) to Multifocal or Trifocal Intraocular Lens implants.

Additionally, he has received specialised training in health services research and this work has led to Dr Owen’s appointment as Part-time Consultant at the Ministry of Health providing Ophthalmology expert advice to the Policy, Research and Evaluation office at the Ministry of Health. Dr Owen was also previously a Senior Consultant at the National Healthcare Group Eye Institute (NHGEI). 

Dr Owen has been active in training and education, serving as Clinical Senior Lecturer at the National University of Singapore Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and Clinical Tutor at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine.
