Foods that cause erectile dysfunction

According to an article by the Cleveland Clinic, “Healthier food choices are the way to a better sex life”. Read on to see what they say about foods that cause erectile dysfunction.

Alcohol Can Increase The Risk Of Erectile Dysfunction

“…it provokes and unprovokes. It provokes the desire, but it takes away the performance.”
(Macbeth Act 2. Scene 3)

William Shakespeare

The Cleveland Clinic article explains that consumption of alcohol can reduce sexual performance in the short term. Furthermore, having a history of heavy drinking increases the chances of long-term problems with sexual function, such as erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation. Alcohol impacts men’s ability to get or hold erections more than the food they eat.

Other Foods That Cause Erectile Dysfunction

Obesity and high blood pressure are factors for erectile dysfunction. As such, poor diets that contribute to excess body weight or high blood pressure increases the risk of developing the condition. Diets that are high in saturated fats may lead to blockages in the coronary arteries (coronary artery disease) and decrease the size of the arteries that are supplying blood flow to the penis. Examples of foods high in saturated fats include:

  • Cheese.
  • Red Meats.
  • Fried Foods.
  • Processed Meats.
  • Butters and creams.
