When uterine cells grow on the ovary, it causes an endometrial cyst. Another type of cyst can form from embryonic cells and are called dermoid cysts; however, these are very uncommon.

The most common symptoms include bloating, irregular menstrual cycle, pelvic discomfort and lower abdominal pain. If left untreated, cysts can lead to further complications. The best way to detect ovarian cysts would be an ultrasound.
